SB64v midi and cd ok, but no wave

Hi there,
I suddenly have sound problems with my PC (with Creative SB AWE64v): CD and MIDI works fine, but only a fraction of the first second of wave (or mp3) files is played. Latest creative drivers did not solve the problem. Hard disk format and Win98 reinstallation did not work, nor did the installation of a new SB64v card.
Any suggestions for a solution ?

Two questions:
Have you checked for IRQ conflicts?
Have you tried the card on another slot?

Thanks for the fast respons.
There are however no obvious IRQ conflicts.
Moving the card to another slot did not solve the problem. Only the first second or some pieces within the wav files are played (bar in mediaplayer however keeps moving).
Any other suggestions ?
