Get the newest drivers and before applying, check for IRQ conflicts.
Also, an antivirus check would be helpful.

I had a similar problem. I uninstalled the AudioHQ and the card functioned perfectly. I think that bundle o' crap just bogs out some systems....

it sounds like there have been other stability problems introduced into the system from the liveware problems (namely the cdrom prob). in this kind of a situation you may be better off taking what we've learned from this problem and rebuild the system, avoiding them this time. i'd reformat & reinstall the os. when it comes time to install the bundled extras with the sound card, skip them. i actually use a sb live and don't use any of the liveware stuff for this very reason. just get the latest drivers from creative, use them and skip the xtras. this may be quicker and easier than worrying about cleaning up the registry and any other undesireable activities which might be necessary after an uninstall of liveware, and that's after you get the cdrom problem figured out... start from scratch, you'll be happier in the long run...

I had the same problem with both my Abit boards. The BF6, and the KT7-Raid. I don't think your CDROM would be bad... I took out the live card and put it into my dell instead and got a cheapo card which worked fine in the BF6 as for the Raid I am still looking for a card to put into it. Its PCI slots are shared with your Raid so you might need to try moving it around a little. Here is a website with some good info on the KT7 mobo.- http://go.to/kt7faq
I had to fdisk my hard drive and reformat it. For some reason it wouldn't recognize the drive until I went through the entire process again. Good luck.

I have had similar problems: but my PC only locks up in games (actually it did freeze today while working in Word and using mp3s). I have tried every version of liveware, but actually I haven't tried just plain drivers, no liveware. The thing is though, I REALLY like the Super-environments and the ability to add echo effects to my music like Arena, etc. What do I do?

Try this, I have the same motherboard and an amd 900, it worked for me. Question and answer follow as I got them from sounblaster's web site.
Why my system has an exclamation mark or blue screen of death after sound driver loaded?
Both Creative and Aureal’s driver occupy an IRQ for DOS emulation. This may cause conflict with another PCI device. We suggest manually reserve IRQ 5 for “legacy ISA” in BIOS “PnP/PCI configurations”.

When you say set IRQ5 to Legacy ISA do you mean IRQ5 or the IRQ that the SBLive Uses (For me it's 3) or the IRQ that the DOS Emulator uses? (For me it shares 7 with the LPT)

Actually, the whole SB Live! sw package sucks!
Surround mixer defaults its settings by its own will http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/frown.gif
Some progs (don't remember the name, smth about voice command software) won't install
Some progs (as that Playcenter & Lava crap) have absolutely no meaning. Check out Winamp
At least the card seems ok

I'd agree with kcrcoo in part. If the problem is caused by the soundcard drivers and IRQ settings then I'd first try phyically removing the sound card, then re-boot and see what happens. My guess is that that should do the trick, then you can remove the card from the windows environment. When you put it back in, check the seating of your all your cards.
When you install the drivers again, disable all sound from windows (startup sounds etc), then you might be able try a test sound before the system hangs, which would suggest a driver problem, rather than an IRQ conflict. This will save fiddling around taking your card out again.
Also try and get the latest bios update. AMD's are renound for being a bit fussy.

I've tangled with very similar probs here in the store... Installing Live!Ware 3 seems to render it a lot more stable than the Live!Ware 2 that comes with our new cards.
I used to think Creative was a great company, but their stuff has really gone downhill lately...

I built a few nice new machines with SB Live cards. Here's what I found:
Liveware 2.0 cannot live with any high end ATI video driver.
Liveware 2.0 is unstable with any VIA chipset that doesn't have the latest drivers.
Upgrade Liveware, get the lates MoBo drivers.Upgrade the video drivers.
SB live shares IRQ nicely with most high performance video cards.Network cards and SCSI controllers don't share. Some Abit Motherboards share busmastering signals from the alternate IDE controller with PCI slot 5 or 6. Sblive don't play that game at all it busmasters solo only. Mind you most of this information is a combination of the little "manuals" and hard painful experience.

i've been fighting this same problem and got it to work right after checking the box for ALLOW LPT INTERRUPT SHAREING in the device manager under creative sb16 emulation seems too have fixed the problem

Enter the BIOS and assign IRQ5 to Legacy/ISA. You will find that the Dos emulation driver is conflicting with the Highpoint controller.
