I HAVE A 950 MHZ ATHLON ON A AZZA KT133-BX MOTHERBOARD WITH A SBLIVE VALUE, AN ATI RADEON LE 32MEG VIDEO CARD, WINDOWS ME, 128MEGS RAM.
I CAN DO ALMOST ANY TASK ON MY COMPUTER EXCEPT PLAY GAMES. WHENEVER I PLAY A 3-D GAME, IT MIGHT TAKE 5 MINUTES, 1 HOUR, OR ANYWHERE IN BETWEEN AND THEN BAM! THE SOUND GOES INTO A LOUD HIGH PITCHED CONSTANT TONE, AND SOMETIMES LOCKS UP THE GAME. I THEN HAVE TO RESET MY COMPUTER TO GET RID OF IT. I'VE CALLED SB TECHS AND THEY CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT. THEY SAID MAYBE MOBO INCOMPATABILITY.
I BOUGHT NEW SB SOUND CARDS, INSTALLED NEW SOUND AND VIDEO DRIVERS, RUN DIRECTX 8.0A, CHANGED PCI SLOTS, DOWNLOADED VIA 4-1 DRIVERS, EXCHANGED MEMORY CHIPS, ETC. I'LL BE EXCHANGING VIDEO CARDS TONIGHT BUT AM ALL OUT OF IDEAS.
CAN ANYONE OUT THERE HELP ME?

Blaster Live ME (http://www.creative.com/support/files/download.asp?prod=sblive&OS=WinME®=0&select=Get+Files) Try these latest drivers from Creative. You might also want to try these video drivers.Ati Radon ME (http://support.atitech.ca/products/pc/radeon/radeon_drivers.html)
Although this really sounds like a sound driver issue here.

Thanks KWB, but i've already installed both of those drivers. I just reinstalled Win ME, and still have the same problem!

I had similar problems with my SBLIVE:Value and my system. I tried everything from diferent drivers (for vid and sound) to upgrading and downgrading DirectX. To make a long story short, there's a conflict between VIA chipsets and your SB:value card. As an experiment switch out your SC for another one (it doesn't matter what kind...i ended up getting a SBLIVE:Platinum cheap from a friend...and havent had the problem since).
Switching Vid cards didn't make a difference for me, but try it. Hope this helps. Plus...every system i've built with the VIA chipset and SB:Value combo...have had similar problems. And it didn't matter what O/S was installed. There's my two cents...
Plus...if you find a different solution...post it, please. Maybe in the Tech Tip section too. Sifting though the forums, people have had many problems with this, and an easy solution (other than replacing the sound card) would be much appreciated I think. :D

Why don't you try 98SE? ME needs to come out with some patches. ;)

I have the same exact problems, and have tried it under both, 98, 98se, and ME. Also have tried it in a K6-board with MVP3 chipset and also in a KT-133 board with my Duron 600. Also have tried both vodoo5500 and with ATI AIW-rage pro. None of the above combinations fix the problem, and it happens in just about any game I have, from starcraft to unreal. I have also gone under multimedia/sound settings in ME's control panel to disable some ane even all of the hardware acceleration features on the card and it still hangs with the steady tone.
So does anyone have a recommendation for another good 5.1 sound card that isn't from creative since they seem unwilling/unable to fix the problems? To bad A3D went under.

The problem is caused by a southbridge chip glitch. Read this article.

THE PATCH IS OUT!! Goto www.viahardware.com (http://www.viahardware.com) to check it out. Via will come out with a BIOS patch later this week, but till then, this patch will help. It's still considered BETA, so install at your own risk. :D
