Hi there ,
i have a SB-Live value ,Duron 700 , Acer AK33 Mobo w/latest
bios and 4.28v Via drivers, 256MB ram.
All my games , CD,s , Mp3 are working fine .
However when i tried to record from the line in (from a tape or 33rpm ,and
the source is flawless)
there is a fine intermitent crackling noise induce in the finished file
(playback)
No mather how i tried to adjust the record level it's still there . And it's
the same result regardless of the software used .
I this a Via related problem or a defective card ????????
Thanks for any advice , Stephane Gingras

This is a known VIA/SBLive bug. Disable UDMA in BIOS. Works for me with my VIA/SBLive rig. Can't play back as many audio parts, but 8 tracks on a K6-2 500 ain't bad.

Well thanks Jeff (F.A.B. father :-)), but it didn't work .
I disabled both master and slave UDMA .
The crackling was loud yesterday until i installed the 428v driver from VIA .
Now it's softer/high frequency (like a 33.3rpm record)
I just installed the latest Via 430 a few minutes ago with no improvement .
Any suggestion ??
Is there some good/cheap soundcards that works flawlessly with a Via mainboard ?? ( For recording ).
Thanks again , Stephane

I've got a Vibra 128 and I get a garbled effect when running intro FMV's in games...
I also get an occasional crackling when opening the start menu while running winamp.
Funny thing is though, I ran the promo intro moving off the Descent3 CD and the sound was fine, I install directX, and then it stuffs up again?

Since i was tired of fooling around to get rid of the crackling noise . And since i was not very optimistic about the various solutions to the freakin Via/Live curse .
I bought a Sound Blaster 128 as a second sound card device for recording . (And use the Live for everythig else.)
No more crackling , my recording is clean .
Until Via/Creative finaly resolve this problem i will keep the 128 in my system.
