no sound when playing Wav! How do I fix it?

My problem is that my SB 16 plays MIDI wihtout any problems but whenever a wav-file is played it brakes up or is not heard at all. And whats worse is that it slows down the computer in the process!

I know this has got to have something to do with the settings, but I don´t know how to fix this!

Any ideas?

Try reserving IRQ 5. Go into bios and change setting for IRQ 5 to legacy/isa.

Verify also that the IRQ 5 is not used by the parallel port (LPT1).
