Recently, I had a problem with my hard drives... anyway thatīs not the help Iīm looking for. I had installed on my PC Windows 98 (first release), also, I had my ALS007 Sound Card working with the Win98 drivers. That was cool.

When my PCīs hard disks crashed, I had to format my disks... well you know what I did. When the time to install Windows arrived, I buyed my Windows 98 Second Edition, that was cool too..., I installed all my devices drivers normally and everything was fine, until I installed my Win98 drivers for my ALS007 sound card. The sound was like delayed, but only in sounds, not with MIDIīs or audio CDs, just the WAVs, MP3s, DirectSound sounds were delayed. I wondered what was going on and I thought that the reason could be a bad driver download, I downloaded them again, the same thing.

Well, I tryed the Win95 drivers... Everything was fine... the sound was perfect. I installed again the Win98 drivers, the same latency situation.

I had this crazy idea and I installed instead the Second Edition, the First release of Windows 98... SURPRISE!!! The win98 Drivers worked perfectly. :(

Is that Iīm supossed to use the Win95 drivers my whole life or use the first release of Windows 98!!???

Please anyone help me, īcause Iīm dying here!!!

What's wrong with using the '95 drivers with you Win98se? If you've got sound, you've got sound. The purpose of a driver is to allow Windows to use the hardware properly. Sounds like you found a way to make Win98se interface with the sound hardware properly. So again, where's the problem?

Whatīs the problem??
ok, Iīll tell you what the problem is...

A-) The MIDI wavetable is extremely poor, the sounds are totally artificial and synthesized when with Win98 drivers were totally real, or similar, at least.

B-) I canīt play my audio CDīs with digital playback.

C-) When recording MP3īs in analog mode, the sound quality is very poor.

D-) I can only listen one sound at the time, when with Win98 drivers I could hear 3 wavs at least.

E-) I have no visualization in my WinAmp, Sonique or Windows media Player 7...

What do you think of that?? Besides... tell me... if the drivers were not nescesary... why did they created them??? ;)  :)

ok 1st of all calm down.

2nd you say that with win98 1st ed it works perfectly and with win98 2nd it doesn't.
so just stay win win98 1st, install all updates from the windows update site and there ya go problem solved.

You said everything worked perfectly with the Win95 drivers...
Well, I tryed the Win95 drivers... Everything was fine... the sound was perfect.
then use them. Like I said before: The object is to get the sound card to work properly--the Win95 drivers do. So use them. Just because they made a Win98 driver doesn't automatically make it necessary to use it--perhaps they even screwed something up in that new set. The Win98 driver was probably written in response to customers who had some different combination of products than you and the Win95 driver wouldn't work for them....

You always can download latest drivers directly from chipset manufacturer here: http://www.realtek.com.tw/htm/download/cgi/dld1.cgi/h?class1=computer
(Avance Logic is in fact part of Realtek company).
