I think DirectX 8.0a is your problem. Many people has posted problems with DirectX 8.0. Unfortunately, the "official" position from Microsoft is that you can't uninstall a version of DirectX in W2K. Try undating your video drivers at nVidia's web site... http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smilies/cwm3.gif

hi
thank you for the answer.
can i reinstall DX7 on top of DX8 ?
or there is another way to remove/replace
dx8 without reinstalling windows2000 ?
i talked with someone today who told me
that the problem is just with tnt2
and he is working with his tnt 16M fine
under dx8 with the new drivers ?
thank you

I don't think it'll work, but you can try re-installing DirectX 7.0 over 8.0 (or 8.0a)...you don't have anything to lose (except maybe your mind)... http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smilies/cwm3.gif

Unfortunately, DirectX automatically checks version numbers, and won't overwrite an older version. Only way to downgrade DirectX is to format and reinstall the OS. http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/frown.gif
I had problems with the Diamond Viper 770 (TNT2 chipset). I couldn't get Direct3D to work at all, and DirectDraw was flaky. I tried the default MS drivers, I tried several versions of the Nvidia drivers, I tried both DirectX 7 and 8, nothing. I finally got POed, pulled the card and put a Matrox G400 in instead. Bingo! Works perfect. I suspect it's just crappy Nvidia drivers....

...there ARE issues with Dx8 and the TNT2 card. Make sure you have the latest NVidia (Detenator) drivers and go to the Dx website, if you haven't already, and see if there's a driver patch available. (There is a possible patch you could use at epicgames.com under UnrealTournament - let me know if it works for you)
