I was given an old 486 PC, 346MB with Windows 95 with 16meg Ram, a non
working monitor, another friend of mine gave me a WANG Monitor,
model No. Mon-1428-Jul92. Modified to E-rev9a.

I know this is very old a computer, but it is for a family friend who cant
afford one, every thing works now, except I cant adjust the horizontal shift,
have a 1" inch black border on the left and right hand side of monitor.
MORE if I put colour to high 16 bit and 800X600 pixels.
Have tried everything.
The monitor has all the adjustments but NOT horizontal shift. Is the monitor
too old?
Removed it from other devices, reinstalled windows 95, made no difference.
Would you be able to give me some advice on making the monitor work?

Thanking you in anticipation.

Adjusting your software settings will not help the monitor. Look on the front for some adjustment controls, also on the back. It's possible the monitor is broken or damaged some way. Or it may not support the resolutions you're trying to feed it.

I used to be pretty good at popping the cover on old monitors and adjusting the trimmer pots located on the circuit boards. If you're careful, you can find the one for making the horizontal adjustment...sometimes they're even marked. If you do make internal adjustments, make sure you don't fry yourself, and use non-metallic tools to turn the trimmer pots... http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smilies/cwm3.gif
