Anyone got any ideas. When playing any game with the above graphics card on any operating system, the whole system freezes allowing only a reboot.Ctrl-alt-del not possible. Have used the Powersprinter software supplied by Guillemot which allows the core clock speed to be reduced to 150Mhz and then everything runs ok. Problem is I now want to use Win2K but Powersprinter does not work on Win2K. (Games do work fine on Win2K with the new DX8NT drivers), but not with this card!! Thing is I would really like to use the card at its intended speed (175Mhz) I really dont see why I should reduce it everytime. I could have bought a slower card to do this!!

A quick guess :

I bought an ATI Xpert 2000, for wich the clock frquencies should be 105Mhz, after verifying with Rage Tweaker, my card runs at a mere 80Mhz - with further research, i found that video chips are in some way treated the same way as CPU's - the perfect P3 gets the higher Mhz, and they downward-test the CPU until it reaches a stable speed, and rate it accordingly.

I read at a major tech site (anandtech/register, i don't remember) that ATI used this technique for their cheaper boards (Xpert 2000 included) and i happen to have a slow one...

My guess would be that they over-rated the quality of that particular chip and in fact over-clocked it themselves - pull it on the warranty and claim a new one.

BTW : I don't know for your particular card, but there tends to be an awfull lot of software being able to over/down clock your Vid speed, some universal(like your) some proprietary, check to see if there is any for you OS of choice, that could be an alternative if you can't get refund for your board ! :^)

I really hope that helped !

What i did yesterday ?

I did nothing,
I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I
thought it could be.

Plas...I bought the exact kind of vid card you have and it gave me nuthin' but guff. Where did you find that Rage Tweaker? You might have answered what gave me so much trouble a while ago! http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smilies/cwm24.gif
