I have a Sony VAIO laptop model F-490. It has a NeoMagic MagicMedia 256XL+ video adaptor with the 4.12 drivers installed.

I am having a problem setting the TV out resolution above 640x480. I used to be able to set the TV-out resolution at 800x600 to watch my DVDs on TV. Now, however, after I installed the new drivers (4.12 instead of 4.11) the slider bar for External Display: TV is stuck on 640x480 and I cannot move it to anything else. The problem is that at 640x480 the DVD image is really bad.

Before this problem occurred, I used to set both the internal resolution and TV out resolution to 800x600 and watch my DVDs on TV. Now, I must set them both to 640x480 because the TV out resolution does not go above 640x480.

I have no problems with my internal display resolution. I am set to 16 bit color on my internal display. I can change my internal display resolution up to 1024x768. It's just that the TV out resolution cannot be set above 640x480, and I used to be able to get it up to 800x600.

I tried to remove my new driver, install standard VGA drivers, then reinstall my old driver, but that did not work. I tried looking for the driver settings in the various INI files but I could not find anything. I tried to find my way in the registry and found the TVSizeX and TVSizeY setting to be set at 640 and 480 respectively. So I changed them to 800, 600, but that too did not work, as once I refreshed the registry or booted the laptop the resolution changed back.

If you know how I can manipulate the TV out resolution, or if you had similar problems in the past and fixed them, please let me know. I know that there must be a way to do this, since I used to be able to set the TV out resolution at 800x600. By the way, my monitor driver is set to Laptop Display Panel (1024x768).

Thanks,
Z

So, it worked under 4.11 & now under 4.12 it is broken. so far your attempts to re-stall 4.11 have been in vain.

I'd call NeoMagic - boardmaker - with the issue; there is a chance that the version that you installed wasn't intended for use with a TV out capibility [doesn't explain why is seems to stick]

Possibly I've seen Windiws::System::Inf::other

devices show that need to be reomved in order for the system to properly re-stall the 'proper' driver. removel of all of the associated keys for the video driver may also be necessary for proper function. :)
