I have a friend that has a computer about 3 years old. He asked me to fix his video because for some reason it dosen't change resolution or colour. He asked me to format his computer and I did. Afterwards, I reinstalled every updated driver to run the computer properly. But then for some reson the colour can only go up to 16 bit, and the resolution can go only up to 640x480. He told me the resolution can go up to 1600x1200. All the drivers are installed properly, the Device status says: "This device is working properly." for both monitor and video adapter.

He's running windows 98, his monitor is Tatung C5DZE, he has an intergrated video card, his motherboard is PC100 Systemboard M599LMR

Everything else works fine, I've even tried using glsetup to install his driver but it says "Unknown".

I am really stuck on this one, Hope you can help in anyway.

The M599 uses the SiS 530 video drivers from www.sis.com.tw. If you are using the PCchips drivers you may have better luck with the SiS.

Change the monitor drivers from the default monitor to either the correct one or one of the CTX range in the driver section.

Do you people think it's a hardware problem?

Go into the BIOS and raise the amount of memory allocated to the integrated video, then try raising the resolution or colour depth. As mentioned above, also ensure that monitor type is not set to 'default monitor' as this will restrict the settings that are available to you.
