At startup my computer goes to the desktop and then goes black for a second

At startup my computer goes to the desktop and then goes black for a second, is there anyway to fix this? I have an Visiontek GeForforce 2 GTS in my computer, and have just reformatted to install winodws 2000, but I still have the problem.

What monitor do you have & also do you have a refresh unlocker installed?

I have a MGC monitor, and I did unlock my refresh rate, which used to be at 60 MHZ. But I did not have this problem until I upgraded my old ATI card to a GeForce 2 GTS-V.

I have that issue.. But it's more planned than accident. I have my video card overclocked and my screen blacks out for a second while the clock rates change away from defaults. Now this is using the reg hack to enable the overclcok sliders in the display properties.

matridom, your clock settings should not be resetting themselves everytime you restart your comuter. Once you change your clock settings once the clock settings stick, unless you manually change them or unselect "Apply these settings at startup"

The video card is SET at a speed rate, regardless of wht goes one when the system is started up, these are your DEFAULT speeds. The reg hack that allows you to modify the speeds, make the changes in the DRIVERS. when the system powers down, the drivers unload and the vid card goes back to defaults. I prefer it that way, cause if you go to high, your video may never boot another system if the speeds get "locked" in.

Matridom if your card works then you will have no problems with your card speeds so there is no need for your card to reload default settings every startup... and if the settings dont work then that is what safe mode if for. :)

1. the card speed is stored in the video bios. The bios on the video card can only be flashed with a newer version, changing "settings" on the card itself is not possible unles you manualy edit the bios and flash it into the card.

2. The Drivers change the speed of the card. No Drivers = Default speeds

3. Safe mode loads the system with generic drivers.. I.E. no "overclocked" set drivers therefore works at default speeds.

4. I'm not reloading defult speeds every startup, every startup i BEGIN with the default speeds and need to knock them up. Hence the "apply settings at startup" for the OVERCLOCKED speeds. That's how a video card get's overclocked.
