Onboard Video question.

I am stumped. I am trying to install an AGP card into a friends system that has on board video. (It is an HP system and he is running Windows 98 1st addition I think.)

We went into the bios and changed the settings to AGP and saved the changes thinking that should work but it won't. All the new drivers are installed also. We still only have 16 colors!

What am I doing wrong or what am I missing? I have never really delt with onboard video before let alone disabling it and I can not find anything on HP's website.

Are there jumpers on the board that I need to switch?

Does anyone have any ideas?

If not disable it and reboot. Also, double check the driver install to make sure the drivers were added to the proper video. I am assuming that this is a newer machine if it has onboard vid and an AGP slot. The onboard should have automatically been disabled. It is also possible that the video took a different IRQ and is now conflicting with something else in the machine. I would check for that also.

Which HP model is it? Some of the older Pavilions are not capable of disabling the onboard video...others are. Go here for <a href="http://www.hp.com/cposupport/software.html" target="_blank">HP's Drivers & Downloads</a>. Enter your model number and follow the bouncing ball. Hopefully, you can find what you're looking for.
Example: <a href="http://www.hp.com/cposupport/personal_computing/support_doc/bph04816.html" target="_blank">HP Pavilion PC - Motherboard Layout and Information: ASUS P2B-VE</a>. It does show a jumper for disabling the onboard video.

I checked out HP's website and the only manual it has listed for this system is for a Seagate Hard drive. What's really funny is it has a Maxtor drive in the system not Seagate.

as having a Falcon m/board, socket 370 with ZX chipset and Rage VGA. If this matches your system, the VGAEN jumper is alongside the secondary IDE connector.
