[RESOLVED] Packard Bell safe reboot

I have a problem. I have a Packard Bell S621, 233MZ pentium, Tried to upgrade video card with voodoo3 2000 pci card. Installed card and seemed to be working OK. Changed drivers to new board. Forgot to disable old board (is part of motherboard). Have viewsonic afi 17" monitor which worked fine. Next time I went to boot up, hard drive started, it accessed cd-rom ( did not access the floppy drive ) which is not part of normal startup. Screen is blank, monitor goes to sleep. Windows 98 does not start. Hard drive activity stops. How do you boot up into safe mode? And any other info can be helpful...

when you boot up your computer press the F8 several times.. Many companies like packard bell block out the bios screen and other stuff so you will have to press it several times. then follow directions on screen.

To get into safe mode in Win98 you have to hold down the CTRL key just before Windows starts to load (just after memory test and IDE detection). From the startup menu, choose option 3.

Boot with a 98 boot disk
Go to the C: prompt
Type in WIN /D:M
That should boot you into safe mode

Can't access floppy drive. Boot up goes right by it. I've tried.

You need to change that in CMOS
Make your floppy the first boot drive.
Uuuuummmmm.....
Packard Bell ... try these at time of booting.
F1 Key
F2 Key
CTRL, ALT, S
Depending on the manufacturer of your bios, one of these should work to get into the CMOS.

Can't see screen on monitor to change CMOS. Looked for jumper on motherboard to reset to defalt but it seems I do not have one. Looks like I am going to have to buy new chip. Tried everything else. Thanks for your help everyone.

Its sounds like you are not even passing the POST. Have you tried removing the new card and booting? As far as resetting your bios, you could try removing the battery. PB's site is down right now so I can't tell you about the jumper to disable the onboard video. Some machines disable the onboard my themselves.

Just a note to tell everyone who gave me input, Thanks!!!
Purchased new BIOS chip, installed, everything booted right up. Packard Bell motherboard 810 has no way to clear BIOS by jumpers that I was able to find out.
Went to devise manager removed the onboard video. Installed card again, seems ok. Thanks again....
