I have tired everything I can think of to fix this problem and nothing has worked so I'm hoping someone here can help me. Basically my problem is I have an ATI 3D Rage Pro video card in a system with a P200 MMX 64bm RAM and an 8.4gb HD running Windows 98, and I do a lot of online gaming, but in this one game where the minimum system requirements are like a P90 and 32mb of RAM I only get an fps rate of about 14-15 at the most. And it frequently drops to under 8 making the gameplay very choppy and basically impossible. I've talked to others who play the same game and the average fps rate for a P166 and 32mb of RAM with a generic video card is about 25. What the hell is wrong with my system? I have tried using different RAM, overclocking my video card, tweaking my my disk cache, closing all running tasks except those vital to the operation of my computer and the game, and even setting my res at 640x480 256 colors (that's what the game is) and nothing has helped. Someone please offer me some sort of advice, this is really starting to piss me off. Thanks.

This might well be down to your graphics card? For example if the game were using OpenGL and the other lower spec system had a GFX card built around a permedia chipset you would see a big speed increase.
It might be worth seeing if the game does use OpenGL. You'll probably be able to pick up an older PCI card using Permedia 2 which will make the game more enjoyable.

Fingers crossed.

Actually the game uses Direct X. It's not that big of a deal to me anymore, but I'm still at a complete loss as to why this is happening. I think maybe my card is just screwed up, I have an older Cirrus Logic card and maybe I'll ust try that, the only reason I haven't is because I don't want to lose my 1024x768 res. :P
