I realize this is the same as an old thread but I didn't feel like bumping something from like 3 years ago :P

I have this acer 5670 only thing I know about it was what I can see from the BIOS. I got it with the power cord and computer (Fixing it for someone). Its completely messed up, everything I do results in an error. The computer starts up gets to the acer screen where it asks you if you want to enter setup then after a couple seconds goes to a blank screen and doesn't do anything.

Boot from CD? Wouldn't change order. Had to enable the f12 to select boot device then hit f12 and select IDE 2 (Option to choose CD Rom didnt show up)

Once in the menu I cannot delete any of the partitions, cannot install windows on any of them due to errors (one of them is out of space when it asks to format it first I say yes and it gives me an error, one it says it doesnt recognize the partition and the other one just makes it crash with some sort of setupdd.sys error)

Run windows recovery and it says the path or file specified is not valid.

Yeah, I know not alot of information but w/e I do leads to errors lmao. Help would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Edit: If I take the windows CD out and select it to boot from IDE 2 using the f12 menu it gets past the acer screen but says

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM
Operating system not found.

I went into the bios and disabled network booting and it removed the PXE errors but still says operating system not found!

Now, completley out of the blue - it does not work, there is power as light is on, when i plug it in, new hardware is found, it even notes that it is WD, but not more specific detail such as size etc.
I'm not overly technical regarding these matters...but have tried reinstalling & updating drivers, still nothing. Basically i can not access information on the device as its not popping up in my computer etc.

ok lets start with the first one i have a WD 500GB My Book Office that i have used for about a year, i used to plug it in windows would make the sound that showed a usb device was connected a sort of doot doot sound, and then it would show up under my computer and i could access it from there

all of a sudden, now it makes the doot doot sound shows up on Device Manager it also shows up on Disk Management but as an unknown drive, but not under my computer,

when i try to initialize the disk it says the drive could not find the sector requested

i tried going through countless hours of Western Digital Support and they are rediculous and only told me the drive was defective AFTER A YEAR OF NORMAL USE!!! so i agreed and they sent me a new drive, witch has a whole other set of problems, that replacement Unit is a "WD 500GB My Book Home Edition"

but the "WD 500GB My Book Office" has about 300 GB of info i want to save the local data recovery stores want to charge me 300 dollars to recover that much info so if anyone can help please please help me, im somewhat computer savy but this is far beyond my troubleshooting abilities

so part two is the drive they sent me as a replacement witch is a bit updated it has firewire and direct esata right out of the back witch is all nice fot my useage so i want to transfer the old 500GB Office drive info onto the new 500GB Home drive, but the new drive the 500GB Home drive out of box i plug it in via USB and nothing...nothing happends the lights on the drive are on but windows does not recognize it it doesnt show up in devices or anything i dont know what to do with either of these prblems please help cuz Western Digital wont!!!!

A old friend brought me his laptop (Acer Travelmate 2310) When you try to boot it to windows you get the following error message [Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM]. He only use's the computer for email and surfing the web so we decided to do a clean install. Problem is I couldn't figure out how to access the installation files on the hard drive, so I decided to do an install using my Windows CD and then install the drivers from the website. But to do that I had to go into the BIOS to tell it to boot from the CD-Rom first, only to find that it was password protected, and he doesn't have a clue as to what it is. (he got it second hand a while ago) So I went to the web and found 4 what they called "back door passwords" (PHOENIX, phoenix, BIOS, and bios) but they didn't work. Could someone tell me if there is an easy solution to my problem.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a dell dimension 2400 with XP Home. I haven't used it for some time and I updated all my apps and Windows. Then updated the drivers but the only one that worked was the Intel universal host controller 24. I have no sound. I had soundmax audio on it before and could hear others in voice chat but had no mic or webcam. I attached a webcam, downloaded the drivers for it and got it working but have no sound at all. I went to cnet to update to SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio 5.12.02.5280 it instructed me to uninstall it first,so I did, then upon re-intalling it I got a message that it wasn't compatible with my hardware. I later read this in the Cnet review for this download link: (Cons: Cnet should not have advised software update. Instructions read to first remove existing drivers. New drivers would not install "audio driver files do not suport your computer hardware." Had to re-install from the original Intel motherboard CD.)
So I am not the only one who had the same problem. So I decided to try Real Tek Audio AC97 Codec and a message came up saying it had not been tested by windows logo but since I downloaded it fine on another friends pc that had xp home I went ahead. I didn't think of it possibly not being compatible with my Dell pc. Well, it shut down my pc and I had to restart in safemode and then I removed it in add/remove. So I assume it is not compatible with my dell dimension 2400? When it shut down it went to a blue screen that said to check to see if video adapter needed to be changed or BIOS updated but to check with vendor ??? After I rebooted in Safe Mode, removed it, rebooted again, then the found new hardware box came up with multimedia controller found but when I tried to install it did not find software.
There are 2 big yellow question marks under other devices in the device manager. One says multimedia controller and the other says ethernet controller. The only audio drivers I could find on Dell site for Dell Dimension 2400 with XP is ADI 198x Integrated Audio,Creative Labs-patch/upgrade Sound Blaster Live 5.1 Digital and Soundblaster Live 24 bit. Is the ADI 198x Integrated Audio the multimedia controller and the one I need? If not can you please tell me what one I need and what ethernet controller I need. I tried updating the Realtek RT2 8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC driver that is there in the device list but it only said it could not find a better one yet when I did a scan for drivers needed it said this needed to be updated.
I will greatly appreciate any help.

Hello !!

I bought this really nice and small Mini-Itx case :
http://www.plonter.com/detail.tmpl?s...76336&lang=heb

And bought an intel mini itx G41 based board for this case.

Now...The case's fan are quite quiet, But although I can put an regular 775 cpu fan, It seems to be quite noisey. All intel boards I used so far (g31 based mostly) have this thing that spin the cpu fan to high RPM, And I could'nt find a workaround this (Bios update, Bios setting doesn't change it).
I used Intel 2180 cpu with this babe.
What I did is replaced rear fan with quite quiet glacialtech 80mm fan (This is maximum fan size for rear of the case),And connected it's 3 pins to the case fan connector which spins the cpu at a lower RPM rate than the CPU fan connector, And built a cartoon tunnel than drive out air out of the case.
Temp looks fine when not under load (Around 40 deg cel.), But it goes to about 55 when playing HD movie.....
I tried to made the glacial work with 5 Volts, Although it's quiet, It doesn't cool well (Around 46 deg. cel when not under load).
I don't know right now how to improve cooling/noise ratio.
I think of getting some silent cpu cooler and making the glacial tech rear case fan to work at 5 volts again....Any suggestions ?

A complete overhaul and cleaning of the components should fix it but I have problems taking it apart due to fear I may damage something inadvertantly.

Ok, this drive is about to cause me to throw my laptop out of the window, so maybe ya'll can help.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705, it is running Windows 7. It has the above mentioned DVD/CD Drive/Burner in it.

It will read and write MOST CDs without an issue. However I have about 6 spindles of Memorex Lightscribe CD-Rs. This drive will not burn or read them. I took all 250 to work and labeled them, and planned on burning them at home.

When I place one in the drive, it shows that there is a CD in the drive, and starts to read it, then Windows Explorer will totally lock up, if I hit the eject button, the computer goes back to running normally. It does this EVERYTIME I place one of these in the drive, regardless of if it is blank or already wrote. I've managed to get it to start writing the disk twice, both times it took nearly 10 minutes to write 189MB of data, then when it got to the end, it would lock the computer and I would have to eject the disk, then the system would tell me there was an error.

The disk are 52X speed. I also have Sony CD-Rs, Memorex DVD-Rs, both of which work fine, but are lower burn speeds. So my question is 1. What is wrong? 2. Is this a firmware/driver issue? 3. How can I resolve it?

Thank You!
