Can anyone tell me a good, safe, free program to download that will open zip files. Would prefer one that will open different types of zip folders.

I agree with the above suggestions. WinRAR is the best I've found in a long search for the most complete Archiver UnZipping Unpacking etc. application available free or otherwise. I work a lot with ISO files and while other applications are satisfactory with them, I have more options with WinRAR when it comes to compatibility.
Ferrit, WinRAR is shareware, not freeware. 7-zip is definitely freeware, and PKZip still has a free extraction utility. Biker Chick, Windows 2000 Professional and newer have file decompression for many common formats built in. I believe that Vista has a bug dealing with decompressing very large files, but I haven't verified it.
easiest one i've ever found...JustZipIt.
Winrar does have a nag screen after 30 days, but the quality of the product certainly is worth the money.
30 bucks for a program that will extract virtually anything and is tried and true seems fair to me
Yep, I think WinRAR is defintely worth the money. Own it myself. When I downloaded the Bioshock Demo a while back, I couldn't decompress it with Vista's native utility. The extraction was incredibly slow, and showed as completing successfully, but files were missing and the setup wouldn't complete correctly. Didn't happen with WinRAR.
Thanks to all of you for your suggestions for a good safe Zip Program. I just found out that WinXP will open a zip folder. I very seldom have to open a zip file, and that is why I ask for a free version. Thanks again folks. Biker ChickQuote:
