Howdy folks,
I am in need of an external CMOS coin battery holder for a desktop. Bare wires would be fine, then I can put ends on it. This system has a soldered in battery, and it is very dead.
I looked for a while, but these are apparently kind of rare.
Maybe someone out there has a good source, or an alternate way of doing it. (I don't solder (yet)).

solidering is easy, and about the only way youre gonna get good contact. A trip to your local radio shack shold get you both a kit and the wire to do it . in the past i've solidered bare wires to the top of the battery, but then i started de-solidering the sockets from dead motherboards and just hanging them inside the case from the wires, which were sloidered to the bits of wire left from cutting out the old dead one. ...however i havent done either in years, how old is a comp.that has a hardwired cmos battery......

Two alkaline AA or AAA batteries in a plastic holder you can get from Radio Shack etc can be quite successful. Since there's only a tiny current draw, alkaline batteries can last their effective shelf life, typically 7 years.
