Earthlink Mail problem

I've been battling this for over 3 weeks now and can't get any results. My client had their hard drive fail and I collected all the data off. The problem I have is that in their earthlink they used the older mail setup that was some propietary mail system they used. He needs his contact info and mail out of the stored database but it's locked with a password and nothing will open it. We contacted earthlink to get info on how to do recovery and all they told me was "too bad, so sad". If anyone has experience with it we would be grateful.
