[RESOLVED] Acer & Windows NT 4.0 (NOT!)

If anyone can provide real help on this matter, I would really appreciate it!
Here is the message I recently received from Acer concerning a PCI issue that I have (my name deleted, of course!):

Dear Mr. (),

Thank you for contacting Acer America. Acer does not recommend and will not
support the installation of Windows NT on any Aspire. We have not tested
it, and we have no data and no drivers.

Question / Problem:

Desperately need info on the motherboard:
V58XA, 97114-2, 48.38401.021
Sticker on PCI socket:
P/N 55.38401.131, S/N 81300632K Ver E
Suspect problem with PCI bus, it will not recognize known working PCI
modem. Need ALL info on this board and point me to any available PCI
bridge driver downloads, etc.

The Windows NT Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) is a compilation of computers and computer hardware that have been extensively tested with Windows NT for stability and compatibility. Microsoft Product Support Services uses the HCL to determine whether or not a computer is supported for use with the Windows NT operating system.

Before you install Windows NT on a computer, check the HCL to determine whether the computer is certified by Microsoft as Windows NT compliant. The latest Microsoft Windows NT Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) is available from the following Microsoft Web site:

It sounds like NT was installed on the system to begin with. If so, the computer dealer is responsible for fielding all the tech support questions relating to NT. A quick way to find out who is responsible for tech support would be to grab your owners manual and look at the certificate of authenticity...if it has a OEM in it....you need to call who ever made your computer. If no OEM, call Microsoft directly. My next guess is that the Modem isn't supported by NT...
