Adaptec CD writer driver Error SP2

Ok I don't exactly know how it happened, but the guy has SP2 on his XP system and it keeps giving me a balloon error about the "cd writing software" not being loaded cause it will cause errors. He apparently at some point had adaptec EZ CD creator on the machine but it was removed before it was brought to us. The files it's beeching about ends up being the files required for the CDroms (c:\windows\system32\drivers\cdralw2k.sys & cdr4_2k.sys). I renamed the files thinking maybe it'll pull them from elsewhere... no... of course not... I lose my cdroms in windows... I renamed them back and yay the CD roms are back but so is that dumb balloon message... any ideas on how to remove them? I've tried removing the devices from device manager and redetecting them but no change.
