Via Tech 3038 PCI to USB Vs. VIA Tech Rev 5 or later?
On my Win98SE OS (I have a multiboot system w/98SE,WinXPPro & Win2KPro) I attempted to connect a Belkin 2.0 Hub to my ADS 2.0 UBS PCI card and have a problem. It wasn't working correctly so I called Belkin and the said I have to update my VIA Tech 3038 PCI to USB Host Controller to VIA Tech Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller. Apparently this has something to do with my motherboard? and something about a 4 in 1 update that I can't seem to find this 4 in 1 thing and/or a definitive process to accomplish this. I was also told to update the ADS PCI to USB controller card to a more current version which I did. Now I have 2 USB Serial Bus Controller entries in my device mgr within Win98SE that looks like this:
Universal Serial Bus Host Controllers
NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller
USB 2.0 Root Hub Device
Universal Serial Bus Host Controllers
External USB Hard Drive (This is an external USB 2.0 Hard Drive)
Generic USB Hub (This is a USB 1.0 Hub)
NEC USB Open Host Controller
NEC USB Open Host Controller
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Storage Adapter V3 (TPP)
Via Tech 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
Via Tech 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
I'm confused now and don't know if this is the way it's supposed to be, is there suppose to be 2 Universal Serial Bus Host Controllers entries?, and if so, shouldn't my USB 2.0 external Hard Drive be listed under the 1st Universal Serial Bus Host Controllers entry showing a USB 2.0 Root Hub Device?
By the way in XPPro I do see a VIA Tech Rev 5 or Later USB Universal Host Controller entry and an NEC PCI To USB Enhanced Host Controller (B1) entry.
Any ideas on what's going on here?
Thank you!
