Are the power lights off? Is the fan on the psu still going round?
The light that shows harddrive activity is still n but the power button is off. I have to unplug the computer to make the light go off and shut the power frm the power supply.
SOunds a little like maybe the switching in the power supply is gone wrong
I tried a new power supply.
Then are you sure you have connected the case connectors correctly?
You didn't say whether the power supply fan was still running or not.
If is an emachine it may be a proprietary power supply.
What exactly happened when you tried a new power supply?
The same things?
The power supply fan is running, the connectors are connected correctly and doing the same thing with both power supplies.
Consider OMG's post. If you remove the front panel, you may get better access to the power switch.
I will consider the answer about the case but what about the sound and usb.

Click on downloads and choose the drivers you need. Download and install them.
I have the drivers. When I uninstall the drivers and reinstalled them, I get the same results, nosound and the usb is not recognized.
Then perhaps you are looking at a faulty motherboard.... or these things are turned off in Bios/setup?
In device manager, do the usb and sound have errors? Are there unknown devices?
Could do with a bit more information than "it doesn't work"....
It's also possible that the chipset drivers are not working properly, so the machine is not being turned off... remember the "It is now safe to turn off your computer"? It sounds like that is what is happening, but without you seeing the message.
I was thinking that it was a problem with the motherboard but was wondering if anyone had other ideas about this. Nothing is turned off in the Bios, no errors in device manager or unknown devices. All devices are shown to be working properly.
When I plug a usb device in it does not show or get recognition from the computer. My printer that is usb connected gave the message that a usb devic is not recognized and my printer is showing as not connected. There is no sound when I startup, play games, or any other souns that should be made. In the sound dialog box everything there is grayed out.
