Networking essentials used to be great, but out with NT 4.
I would say the best is Net+, it is (susposedly) non vendor biased.
I took it without studying (just slight OSI review) and passed on the first try, three weeks ago. It is a great starter.
CCNA (Cisco based), Net + (general)
