Welcome to WinDrivers, ashlexis.
Your problem is similar to the topic on this link. with the references to CD & DVD reversed.
So if you are able to follow that through using a CD, that is try to boot the computer up using a bootable CD like a Windows ME or XP installation CD, you will be able to work out if the drive can actually read any CD. If you can't boot from a bootable CD (with the CD set ahead of the hard drive in the boot order in the BIOS setup) then the drive can't see the CD. Cleaning the laser lens would be all you could try then.
If you can boot from the CD, we'll fault-find your Windows optical drive installation.
Playtpus;
Thank you for your quick reply--I was unable to boot from the drive with a winxp CD. So, I'm assuming the problem lies within the CD Laser portion of the drive and will attempt to clean laser. If this doesn't work, the drive is under warranty and will return it. Again, thank you for all of your help.
You're welcome. Sounds like you've got it all under control.
