Where text setup files are stored ?

I wondered to where the text-based setup of winxp files are copied (the part before you choose on which partition to install it).
I always like to format drive if i have some problem during this phase of install, But it seems they are copied directly to memory, Because i see no trace of them on my drive...

I think they are stored to a virtual drive and then deleted
