pci.sys- 0X07E stop screen on XP install
Hi. This is my first post here, but I've got a tricky problem installing XP Pro SP1 on a new system and need some help...
supermicro X6DA8-G2
3.2GHz 800fsb nocona xeons
2GB kingston DDR2-400 (1024 x 2)
3 seagate 15k U320 cheetahs
pny quadro fx 3400 PCi-E
(all other pci cards and non-vital peripherals have been removed)
At the beginning of the install, right after installing my 3rd party adaptec scsi drivers, the install status bar says "starting windows" and, boom, blue screen of death:
A problem has been detected blah blah blah...
STOP: 0X0000007E (0XC0000005, 0XF748E0BF, 0XF78DA208, 0XF78D9F08)
pci.sys - Address F748E0BF base at F7487000, Datestamp 3b7d855c
I have tried disabling everything possible in BIOS (I believe...) and have flashed the most current BIOS version as well. Everything in the system has been triple checked for proper placement.
At first I thought this might be a graphics card problem, but it seems to be working perfectly... I say that because after trying two separate genuine full version win xp pro disks, I tried installing an old copy win 2000 pro and everything worked flawlessly!! ...went through with win 2k and added all other hardware and updated drivers with no problems at all.
Anybody have an idea why XP pro is throwing this stop screen?
Could it still be bad hardware when, with Win 2k, the system works no problem?
Thanks!
WinXP Pro pre SP1 Install
I am having the pci.sys error with XP pro install. I have a pre SP1 WIn XP Pro install disk. Could anyone tell me if I can make an XPpro CD with SP1 added to the install disk?
Thanks for any help!!

I had built my first PC. when I tried to install Windos XP i got the blue screen with the error below. I tried to load the slipstream SP1 SP2 then run. Still got the same error. I tried to look this up on Microsoft support but they had nothing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

I have hppavilion dv2700 with vista home premium. but i like to downgrade winxpprofessional. when I try to install winxp following this error appeared on the screen." stop: 0x000007E PCI.SYS" plese can you give me any instant answer step by step?
quick fix for Pci.sys error that worked for me.
Ok I also made the slipstream WinXp with service pack 2 which in my case took forever. Installed the XP with SP2 on a new hard drive since I assumed the data on my old hard drive and XP would be lost or nonfunctional.
What worked was easier than described elsewhere so here we go:
1) get a copy of windows xp with service pack 2
2) boot from the CD
3) once the blue setup screen starts choose the "repair" option instead of a new installation.
4) this will bring you to a c: prompt
5) run "chkdsk" (I can't remember if I added. the .exe ending or just typed chkdsk)
6) if no problems are found - run "fixboot"
you will be asked if you are sure you wish to do so - answer yes of course
7) Restart the computer - booting from the C: not the CD!
8) Windows should come up with different boot options - Choose "Safe Mode" not the regular boot
9) After Windows has loaded - reboot / restart once again
10) - Windows XP boots back up normally and all the programs run normally once again, and your data is still there!!!:)
11) Ta Da!
This worked for me, so I'd suggest you try this first before doing the whole windows xp reinstall (and having to reinstall all your programs again!). If it does not work for you, you can always go to plan B - a complete reinstallation of XP with a complete reinstallation of all your programs.
