Restart and tap F8 key several times until it goes to a selection then
pick safemode. In safemode run your antivirus and spybot, adaware, hopefully
even Ewido.
I have seen several things do this.
memory is one
psu too small or faulty can also do it
cpu heat
those are some thiings to check
We could also use the system specs to make an evaluation
cpu?
memory?
motherboard?
Pentuim 4 Processor @ 2.4 GHz
2.5 GB DDR RAM
Asus P4S800 Motherboard
40 GB Maxtor HD (Master)
250 GB Maxtor HD (Slave)
i run the PC Probe Utility which the Systemboard disc gives which shows the tempurature and the usage of the PC's parts.. They all seem pretty normal.. any solutions??
I guess this is the system that had the new memory fitted... did it do this before the new memory?
If this is a reboot due to internal error, turn off auto restart ( right click my computer, properties, advanced, startup and recovery, settings and uncheck the 'automatically restart' box - next time it will blue screen properly so you can make a note of the exact message ).
could be drivers, or software too.
Is the power supply unit suficient for your current system (http://www.journeysystems.com/power_...calculator.php)?
Also, I've had a similar situation occur where my PSU was slowly dying and it caused reboots, shutdowns.
I dont know.. almost everything is old on this computer.. it was bought in 2000...
also.. yes it has.. but it hasnt for a while after i reformatted... i have reformatted this computer.. maybe my new parts are not compatible unless i update??
You can test to see if it is a heat issue by getting into the cmos and leaving it there for a while, if it stays up then you can probably eliminate it as a culprit. You said that you reimaged it recently, are you sure that you have the most up to date drivers as Garak suggested, and also is it Windows XP or some other flavor? Also, make sure that you have the latest sevice pack available. Does it reboot when in safe mode?

yes it has rebooted in safemode... i checked for updates and theyre all updated..
but now, i have replaced the PSU with a 300W Power Supply just now, well see how far i get.. keep bringing in your inputs.. its plenty helpful
Could it be that Windows Updates are rebooting the machine?
changed any drivers recently????
