Dvd RW reads dvds but not cds

Hi guys,

I have a NEC 2500 A which will recognize and play my movies (DVD format). However, whenever I put in a cd (music/software/burned or not burned) it fails to recognize (all it does is spin the cd). THe strange thing is that it worked fine before. THis drive is about 3 months old. When I put it in, there were no problems during installation and it was able to read my windows disc or any other disc. Now, it will only read DVDs and nothing else. Any suggestions before I go out and buy another one?

Here's what Im running:

Win XP w/ SP2
NEC firmware 1.07 (the newest one).

Only software that I installed (that I can think of) before this problem occured was Itunes for my Ipod.

I believe there is a different read head for standard cd's and dvd's, so possibly the one head is bad or needs cleaned??
