Maybe it's just a real one? have you checked into the themes or even to see if an audio file is in the startup.
Malware isn't that petty. Maybe a joke program, or some goofball virus. I still am leaning in the direction of a theme, even one possibly installed by a game or movie.
A joke of someone else using your computer, you should go contropanel to delete.

Do you happen to have weatherbug installed? Did a google search and read quite a few articles related to the cricket sound and most turned out to be associated with weatherbug.
Ah, Weatherbug! Weather Channel claims that Weatherbug is "spyware free" and while it is advertiser supported, it doesn't employ pop-up or pop-under ads.
That's a tractor trailer load of organic fertilizer! Weatherbug installs MyWebSearch to your computer, and that's a placement for pay search engine. Weatherbug also tries to install the MyWebSearch toolbar. OK, so Weatherbug tries to change your default search engine, installs a useless and misleading toolbar, and only generates inline ads (which may or may not be legit, and may or may not attempt to install malware on your computer) within Weatherbug's desktop app. No worries there, right? I've also seen Weatherbug give the user an additional bonus: HotBar! Yes, yet one more bit of free malware.
Spybot, MBM, Combofix, and most AV software will delete this stuff. But The Weather Channel continues to claim their product is "spyware free".
