upgrading my processer

HI, This is my first post here on this forum. I have a older Toshiba Satellite 4000cds Laptop. I've upgraded the memory from stock 32 mb to 160mb and have increased my GB from a measley 4 GB to 40 GB. I've been able to do this on my own at very little cost. Which leads me to my question. I next want to upgrade the processor. This is the info from System Information.

(x86 Family 6 Model 5 Stepping 2 GenuineIntel ~233 Mhz)

Can anybody tell me what is the maximum increase I can do here and and the approx. cost of doing so. Thanks. Dapper

It's been my experience that most all laptop processors are soldered to the board and cannot be opgraded that cheaply if at all

Welcome to windrivers dapper. You've got a Mobile Pentium II w/ a 66MHz fsb. If it is not soldered to the board, the fastest processor you could replace it with would be the 400MHz Mobile PII, in the Mini-Cartridge (not the Micro-PGA) form factor.

Without opening up your laptop its hard to say, but both would be compatible from the standpoint of bus speed. The first link is a Celeron, the second a Pentium II. The 400MHz PII runs at 1.55v, not 1.6v, which might be an issue. I suggest you contact Toshiba to find out whether the processor can be replaced and what the laptop will support.
