USB 2.0 PCIMCIA Cardbus Problem

Hi everyone,

I have a Dell Latitude V740 Laptop running Windows XP. I recently bought a USB 2.0 Cardbus to speed up transfers to my 160GB external drive, but am having great problems. Often when I plug the drive into the usb port I get a BSOD straight away, other times the drive comes up but is completely unaccessible.

I have scoured the net for driver updates, bios updates, o2micro fixes and the like, none of which have proved to be effective.

If anyone could be of help I would greatly appreciate it, thanks!

Yep I've installed SP1.

The error message from the BSOD? or when I try and access the drive?

Well, when it doesn't go straight to the BSOD after plugging it in. When I try and access the drive it gives me a "Drive is corrupted and unreadable" error.

When I plug it into my usual USB ports, it works perfectly..

I can't recall the BSOD message, I think it said something about a possible IRQ conflict, and htere was a problem with the usbehci.sys or something like that

If the cardbus is an nec chipset, I believe there is a dell patch and a bios update, unfortunately Dell seems to be doing work on their servers at the moment. go here (later) and put in your service tag choose your operating system and check out what is there.

Thanks a lot for your help, I have updated my bios and the o2Micro chipset, no luck though however. I tried the card in a friend's computer (which by coincidence happened to be an NEC) and it worked flawlessly.. I'm afraid I will have to putt along at 1.1 speeds for now, unless you (or anyone else) has any ideas..
