Question about Win98 CD

I lost my CD Key for my original Win 98 CD (yes it really is mine). Is there any way to get the key by browsing the CD? How can I get it?

Thanks in advance

Ryan

Unfortunately I am using WinMe right now. I want to reformat and go back to Win98. I can't find my stupid manual with the key on it. Darn it

The CD key is not contained on any MS install CD. The only place is on the manual/jewelcase/cardboard sleeve. The install routine has an algorithm to validate the key, no matter what distribution it came from.

Apart from contacting Microsoft, there aren't a whole lot of possibilities.

Some exist, but can't be mentioned here as they border on illegality. http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin...ilies/cwm1.gif

Did you upgrade from Win98 to WinME? If so you can uninstall WinME from the WinME bootdisk. (MS Knowledgebase # Q272159), then go into REGEDIT and search for ProductKey.

Good Luck...

Some computers have a sticker with the Windows 98 serial number on it. http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin...ncgi/smile.gif
