maybe its a bios setting. have u tried to do an auto-ide configure in the bios? otherwise its a mighty strange problem uve got there.

also try downloading the very latest directx drivers (version 8.0 i think). that fixed my problem, that was like yours.

wot ive heard is that ure ide channel will only run as fast as the slowest device on the chain. what you could try to do (if possible) is just run the other device on the other channel.

totally agree with chupaweed. something has definately gone AWOL in a big way, and a format reinstall with the fdisk /mbr should fix any viruses or trojans.
