as said above, power down, remove ALL other drives, and put this one in by itself. (being a maxtor, you might have to remove the jumper to enable single drive mode).

probably doesnt recgonise that size drive. try limiting the drive down to 32gig to make sure the drive isnt faulty.
failiong that, start looking for a bios update for the motherboard in your pc.

you can, but windows will not boot (very ulikely it will). if you are changing the motherboard - then it is best to do a completely fresh install of windows anyhow.

If the PSU went, it's probably failed the board too. check the motherboard for buldging caps before going out and buying anything. Emachines IMO are cheaply constructed and the Mobo is usually first...

PS2's won't read VCD's as said above. You need to burn as a DVD (even then it is not guarenteed to read copied discs).
You could try getting a cheap dvd player from ASDA (aka Walmart) - they play...
