PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

OK so it hwas been a few days but I finally managed to get another Hard drive in there and guess what happened... Using a 20Gb IDE hard drive I managed to cut down the pre-POST lag to about 6 second...

Ill check the video card for bad caps, and then ill try using an older IDE drive from my 'Ancient of days' PC that ill have to reload windows on for this PC.

I have tried removing all but the primary boot drive, which is brand new and has been checked for errors. There was no change..

Onboard USB, 1394 and sound disabled - no change.
(I even needed to fish out my old PS-2 keyboard for this last one)
Next is to try and disconnect the wireless PCI card.

I believe the brown items have been addressed or do not apply, I can find no way to adjust IDE detect time out, I have already reduced the memory to one stick and posted with each etc..

Checked each Memory module individually by booting with only one stick loaded and noticed no change.
As far tearing down the system I cannot get booted without the video card as I dont have...

I did previously have a PCI sound card but I took that out with no difference in load time
I do have a wireless PCI adapter, and PCI-x video card (radeon x1800xt) on the motherboard as well.

ill try that, though it might be painful as my 120mm cooling fan attached to my heatsink rests almost completely on top of the RAM, I think i can get it out w/o removing the heatsink itself...

Looks like your original idea was not the problem Pbolduc... I disconnected all of my loose USB connectors, my printer, keyboard and mouse so that no USB devices were connected to the motherboard in...

Memcheck from Windows 7 boot menu turned up no problems with the RAM
As for the temperature issue, my PC idles at around 90-95F, or around 32-37C

chkdsk ran on boot drive (750Gb) came out clean as a whistle
Western Digital supplied diagnostic check program showed nothing wrong with the 80Gb drive

Gigabyte MA-770-UD3 motherboard is what I currently use. I will try to run Chkdsk on the boot drive and disconnect the other unnecessary items as well and report back

Other than the main Hard drive and a backup 80Gb drive I have an SATA DVD-R drive attached, could either of those being on its last legs cause...
