I use HDDLIFE Pro software to keep check on hard drives, it cost around 30$ but I think it is worth it. The new 3.0 version will support USB drives also.

If you did an upgrade from 98 to Windows XP you probably will have problems. If you have the XP upgrade CD you should be able to do a clean install of XP from there

We had so many problems with Roaming Profiles that we finally scrapped them here.
