I would agree with above poster in that using a domain would be better then a workgroup. I believe though that you would have to reinstall win2k and designate it as a pdc at setup.

Not sure if I understand your dilemna.....
You do not need any special hardware for two boxes to speak to each other wireless, it aint like cat5. As long as you are in range (on the same channel)...

External USR modems, any model seems to be good. Stay away from win modems (software based), if you want a rock solid connect get a hardware based.
