Turns out that the switchin the drive to master thing actually worked out. Being used to being able to burn CDs through windows explorer, i mistakenly thought it'd be the same for DVDs....

Yea it showed up as two drives...which is what i assumed was normal for a 'combo' drive...guess it isn't?

as for a 40 and 80 cable...what is the difference between the two? my computer knowledge...

Installed the most recent drivers and got the same error. Tried putting a CD-R in there and got the same error. No problems readin when i put in a cd burnt on my normal CD-R drive....
