HP sent you a HP board you should not have to utility the bios, COMMAND COM error is a Harddisk error/ download your harddisk utility and reinstall your harddisk.

Did you remove any previous drivers? also you might try ADD or REMOVE Programs...... to make sure everything loaded.

Cause 1 - APM is not enabled in bios,
Cause 2 - this can occure when there is no device plugged in assuming the drivers are loaded.

Zero Filling wont help if its a drive problem, there is a program ZAP this wipes the MBR , and program wipe... which wipes the drive clean, then you can start fresh.

Try unplug the drive and plug it in again, if you got a floppy drive use a boot disk and fdisk the drive then run scandisk.

Take it th RW drive is set to Master and the other Slave, if that won't work try using a CD Cleaner on both drives.

Take it you zero filled the drive, this does not wipe all viruses; if you can find a copy of zap-wipe run both. then try to use the HP install disk.. also possible that customer added ram, check and...
