Ok, I checked and changed the soudcard slot and after reboot windows detected the card and installed the drivers. So far so good - the soundcard and at least windows media player seem to work...

Yes I realize that. But the installation PDF manual says that this is (the only right?) way to install the drivers - by first letting the system detect the card - then run the installation procedure...

To be exact -neither. I clicked the control panel -> add hardware wizard but I guess it is the same as update driver method in device manager?

Yes, These drivers used to work before. The problem is plug&play used to recognize the soundcard automatically but not anymore. Don't know if this is related to the multimedia controller...

Looks like I'm having a serious problem with Multimedia Audio Controller. It was marked with yellow(!) in Device manager. What I did was new clean install for Windows XP Pro with NTFS format....
