XSoftSpy used to be listed as a rogue app on http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm but was delisted in 2004 after the company apparently cleaned up their act.

Spysweeper is good, but it isn't free. Were I to actually buy some anti-spyware stuff, Spysweeper would come high on the list. Meanwhile, little old cheapskate me just muddles on with the free ones :)

System32.dll is NOT a legit Windows file. Google for system32.dll

I suspect the guy may put a new session on a multi-session CD, replacing the original TOC with the one for the 21Mb of files added in the second session. Nero or Roxio will show you the session info....

This is one of those times a Bart PE CD comes in useful. If you follow the instructions in the link, or get some else to make one for you, use one of its file manager tools to delete the offending...

I'm a very long way from being a Linux geek, but you should be spared all the Windows virus/spyware troubles. As far as I know, there are only a handful of Linux viruses around. Hackers are another...

Assuming you have the BIOS set to boot from CD first, it seems that your CD drive may have gone to the great scrapheap in the sky :(
The good news is, it's cheap to replace :)
