I would guess this is by design. When you use the "X" to drop out of the session you are notified that your session may continue and you are given a chance to confirm this. But a dropped connection...

You may be out of luck. With Windows XP, the key and disc do make a difference - if you have an OEM key sticker on the computer then you would need the CD from the same OEM in order to activate...
