grab a copy of Dart.. It converts to wav on the fly, and you can add the mp3's to a playlist, adjust the sound, the fadein-out, and then just hit record (contains it's own recording sw). Never failed...

well... my 900 is clocked to 1 gig, and it runs steady at 36oc... dunno what that is in Farenheight.. but that is with a few extra fans thrown in..

i tried it in another pc (P3 1 gig) and it still failed... always when the cdrw buffer hits 85%... So i'm rma'ing it back... i think the buffer memory is buggered....
never seen that before...
