I'm all for trying reflow (when the wife isn't home of course) but I may have a problem with the PCB configuration. I was going to swap PCBs between the new and old LCD but I gave up when I found 3...

The mother-in-law brought me her Gateway NV57H13U laptop showing strange glitchy video on the LCD with weird colors and such. I opened the lid and found that slight pressure on the video cable at the...

I have a copy of Tie Fighter and X-Wing somewhere collecting dust in my attic. Although I can't say for sure that this will help get you running, the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit is...

Sorry, OMG. I should have posted that. The second flash didn't seem to make any difference. I know there is nothing wrong with the RAM as it works in the Dells. And the MSI boards boot with the off...

The BIOS flash didn't help. I guess I'll know better next time. Hopefully this OCZ stuff will work in the Dells.

Sorry, the RAM wasn't bought as a dual channel kit but I got 4 identical sticks of OCZ 512MB PC4200. I tried all of the 4 sticks (1 or 2 at a time) in single and dual channel mode. I unplugged and re...

Yes its actually 3 plugs on this power supply and they are all firmly seated. More info, the cpu fan and power led on the front panel do fire up. Those are the only signs of life I got from this...

My company standardized on socket 462 several years ago and now that they are becoming dinosaurs and sometimes hard to buy replacements, I decided to standardize on the new socket AM2 to maximize...

If you can get into fdisk, you can delete the partition. That would force your recovery CD into recreating and formatting a new one. I would much prefer having XP create and format its own partition...

MorseLady, your WindowsXP disk or recovery disk should give you the option to format or even delete partitions. Have you tried to boot from the CD?

1: Just power PC2 back up. No local presence is needed to gain access with remote desktop.
2: Its really not the function of XP (in this case) to share your internet connection. Your router will...

I regularly use Real VNC and Remote desktop. With default settings, they both run as a service and are available even before a user is logged in. As long as its turned on and everything is working...

One thing you might try is disk management on another machine. From my limited experience with flash drives, I have read that some motherboard BIOS treat flash drives as a "super floppy" and others...

Very Welcome..
Yes, you need to transfer the image to the laptop drive first and just see if it boots. Ideally if it boots you could just install the laptop drivers and go on. But as CeeBee said...
