Steve - There is nothing on my screen at all except for mouse cursor on solid black background. My original comment " boots up to black screen with mouse, that is it" is exactly right.

No keyboard sequences or keys work. I have tried to get use on screen keyboard, but it reports as being disabled.
All safe modes do the same thing....

This was how it was brought to me. Its not a video issue, as I said, I have a mouse pointer on the screen.
Repair from Windowd 7 CD says there are no problems detected. Go figure...

Wow. Usually on Monday's things go much worse.
Just for kicks, I thought I would try to run system restore from the Vista CD again (for the 5th time). There has been only one restore point each...

I cannot perform a repair install because the upgrade option is grayed out. I have tried 4 different Vista CDs, they all do the same thing.

Yep, good idea. I checked the memory before any of this, it checks out. I will start a thorough hd check.

OK, I followed that link and renamed all AVG* files in that folder. Rebooted.
Normal mode still gives me the blinking !! error screen, safe mode now stops on crcdisk.sys
grrrr....

Yah, I found that earlier. It was one of the first things I tried before I opened it up...Didn't make any difference with it.

Yes, I have the manual already. That is how I got to the graphics card and DVD drive.
Besides that, it was very little help in troubleshooting this problem.

Hello all,
I am working on an Alienware M15 laptop. Powers up, but no video, or lights on the multimedia touchpad above the keyboard.

System is out of warranty. Acer said "indeed, we shipped you the correct recovery set". And did not help me any more.
The BIOS in this machine has very little options. I will see if...

Yes, it was a complete restore with no saving of anything.
I have tried it with AHCI disabled, I will try with it enabled.
No SD card in it.
This is using their recovery CDs that I purchased...
