In my PC, i was FTPing a big 500 MB file from our university server. After some 300-400 MB of transfer, i heard sound like "TAKK" from inside my CPU, and the computer hanged. I had to reboot it then....

I tried using the Fdisk, it says no FIXED DISK PRESENT
It couldnt actually find the Drives C and D. It says, invalid drive specifications
Any comments on that???

Can anybody tell me what can be the cost of replacing the harddrive (40 Gb Laptop Harddrive?
I don't think the laptop is still under warranty.

Well this isin't mine laptop...its our research group property, so i didn't have that xp installation CD. And no, i didnt called the laptop company, as i don't have any such details.

I tried using the boot floppy, but when i installed all 6 floppy (required for XP Professional) it gave few options: 1) install xp from CD (which i dont have) ,2) Recover..... of these i selected the...

hi,
My system Hard drive has failed, and i cannot reboot it now. Allit gives when started is : media test failure, check cable.
Can somebody tell me, what can be done to boot it now??

And when i set the bios to boot from Hard Disk only, it says operating system not installed !!!
