I was helping out a workmate one time - had to make a backup image of a harddisk for a customer we were using ghost between the orignal and new blank HDD
We ghosted the wrong way !!!!!

You can tell from the MB manual or if you can find out the manufacturer and model of your MB you can check it out through - Windrivers Search pages

Something to think about in the
worst comes to worst situation is MBs KB controller Check that the connector is not
loose etc or if the KBs connector goes at a strange angle to the mb connector

Is you IDE setting in bios set to auto ?
Try a detection on the HDD and reboot and see what happens

As far as I know the Asus P3BF only had UDMA 33 controllers unless their were some releases late in 99/2k check the Asus site to be sure, check for revision numbers, etc.
