Well, yeah- it went on my KT7A-R without a hitch. Put the disk in, 40 minutes later there you are, so I personally can't complain at all about the installation routine.

Friend of mine couldn't get XP on and we tried everything; but he's got a GeForce. So thanks for the tip DigitalDreamer, and I'll let you know how it works out (I've got an old NVidia something he...

Talking about XP install horror stories, here is a real Oscar nominee... A friend of mine has two drives in his 3-year old K6-2 350 machine: an IBM Deskstar 20GB and a Quantum Fireball 2GB. The IBM...

I agree with my countryman- ME is supposed to be good to 512MB, but anything over that you're in 2K country.

Thanks for replying Pakprotector- most of the reviews I've read have have been pretty glowing except for a couple of bitches about the RAID controller. One reviewer quite liked the RAID but said it...

My Abit KT7-R just decided enough was enough and turned it's face to the wall. I've been looking at the IWill (I've got 1GB of SDRAM, so I don't want to just junk it or go through the hassle of...

It sounds like an RTC Wakeup event, but that would probably only happen once, and you'd have to set it. Look in the Power management page for Wake Up Events and see if there's anything under RTC...

Aplustech - I had a KT7-R board since December, and, basically, it was pretty good, although I couldn't get the RAID 0 array to stabilise out under W2K. Just recently the board started playing up...

The only question is why did you have a PC Chips board in the first place? To win a bet?

Thanks, Kingtbone, looks like there's plenty there to keep me busy for a while :)

Demon - there's a BIOS upgrade available that will enable you to go over 1.2 on the KT7a. The problem with ATI cards seems to be the drivers; I read a quote from a Microsoft guy who said "ATI...

You could try net use X: \\servername\share /persistent:yes, where X: is the drive letter you want to map to. If you run it one time it should stick until you run it again with .../persistent:no

Hexus - apparently this is related to the ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) which 2000 uses to manage resource assignment. I've got a bit of interrupt-clustering on my machine too,...

I had 1 256MB stick, and 2 128s, running Windows 2000. Everything was fine, I'd run tests on the memory, sunshine played laughingly on the happy upturned faces. Then I got a 512 stick at a great...

Platypus makes a very good point - it's possibly more a problem with your OS. Only Windows 2000 handles that amount of memory with anything like aplomb (I mean out of the Microsoft bunch- I don't...

I've got 896MB in mine and it's great!

I had a 900 TBird I could push to 1G with the case off. A friend had an 800 Duron he ran at 900 without a hitch. Now I've got a 1.1 TB that won't clock. Lucky dip.

The only thing that springs to mind is FDISKing the bastard and starting absolutely from scratch. NT4 had a quirk, which was it wouldn't format a large disk ( I can't remember the figure: 4GB?) but...

If you're going to use that much memory you definitely want to use 2000 as 9x will have a psychotic episode. It is true, though, that you'll only really need it if you're using something like, say,...

You can go ahead and install SP2. It works OK and it should fix your DMA problems. Worked for me, anyway.

PC Chips boards are generally considered to be only slightly more advanced than algae

For the amount of memory you're talking about, you're almost certainly better off with Windows 2000

I wouldn't let a Norton product in the house. Frankly, I think I'd rather have the virus. At least you canget rid of a virus.

TBirds are terrific, but when it comes to heat, they're bastards. I can run my 900 at 1G OK with the case open, but with the case on, forget it. You definitely need a big fan for these little tykes

RAID 0 is Disk Striping; data is written and read over more than one physical disk (NOT partition). Because the I/O is distributed over more than one channel, spped is - supposedly - greatly...
