Trying to set up an old machine w/ DOS from
scratch. Do I boot to a 5.0 disk? .. or was it 6.0? (I want 6.22 eventually) How do I format the drive in DOS? What was the
"sys" command used after...

There is no ram problem.

I did a search for this but came up empty.
I just setup a drive with 98se, clean install.
The drive had 95B before. Device manager shows
several things 'doubled' now: keyboard, video,
ACPI...

OK .. Networking 101:
Here at work, I'm on a network with Win2k. Is
there a typical place or drive where they would
store and hide things like my Internet history, etc, etc? Someone told me...

Thanx jbar,
No, I can't see anything in DOS; the computer
acts as if I created a partition OK but did not format yet.
I just don't understand how it can be running fine for a year, and 1...

(Sorry about that.)
Update:
I viewed the drive's info using fdisk which shows
the partition is fine. I then attempted to install
Windows 98se on it, but setup says this drive is not...

OK ... with the mystery of the magnetic HD solved, here's a fresh description of my final problem:
9g IBM UW SCSI drive. Data storage only, no OS.
Adaptec 2940uw card. Also connected is a SCSI...

"I think what you are mistaking for EM force is actually, as the last person said, cetrifugal force."
I've talked to several other tech friends who
say this is correct. So I'm satisfied that...

Thanx for the replies,
I'm certainly not 'shaking' the drives around.
I have the drive's cables connected; they're just not installed in the bays. I'm being extremely
careful.
So if I...

This is now happening with 2 IBM drives; one is
20g IDE, the other 9g SCSI. The drives are connected but 'loose'. When I pick up either one
(with the computer on) there's an imense unmistakable...

I've got a 9g IBM UW SCSI drive that turns into
one BIG magnet when plugged in.
HOW THE HELL IS THIS HAPPENING?
I appreciate the funny answers in my other post

Posted this in Hd's but I think it's being

A month ago the 20 gig lost it's ability to boot;

Thanx JMM,
The camera is plugged directly into the
computer .. so I guess there is no HUB. I assume you're saying that the 2 USB plugs
on the mobo ARE in fact USB ports, right? If so then there...

What's the difference? My new camera needs to plug into a PORT .. which I thought I had (2 usb plugs built into the mobo). But apparently I have a HUB (says so in device mngr).. which won't work...

Thanx, I'll try these fixes.
I downloaded the entire program as one
huge 104mb zip file .. would they still have
left something out that I need to search for?

I use a K63-450 cpu too .. it does NOT like
66mhz RAM, so I definitely would pull that smaller RAM stick first .. even if it's
actually PC100. I've seen many slow/lockup problems solved that way.
